So Many Toys (Data Handling)

1Sort toys by one label: cars, dolls, teddies
One sort uses one label. A toy is a car, or a doll, or a teddy — not all three in one pile.
A new label is a new sort. Do not mix “red” into a car/doll/teddy sort unless that is the label you chose.

2One toy, one mark in that pile
Each toy makes one mark in its pile. Two marks for one teddy makes the pile a lie.
The mark is the record of one toy. It is not a decoration.

3“More than” compares two honest piles
Cars more than dolls means the car pile has leftover marks after a one-to-one match. Both piles must be honest first.
Comparing a guessed pile to an honest pile is not “more than”.

4The most is the tallest honest pile
The most is the pile with the largest honest count. A taller drawing that used two marks per toy is not the most.
Least is the smallest honest count. Same rule, other end.

How it works

5A table and a picture must agree
If the table says 6 cars, the picture must show 6 car marks. A mismatch means one of them is wrong.
Do not “fix” the story to match the prettier one. Re-count.

6A pictograph needs a key if one picture stands for many
If one car-picture means 2 cars, the key must say so. Counting pictures as toys then doubles the truth.
No key means one picture, one toy — or the picture is not ready.

7A new question needs a new sort
“How many red toys?” is a new label. You may not reuse the car pile as if it were the red pile.
Each question chooses its label. The old marks stay with the old label.

- Choose the matching labelColour, if the question is colour.

8Colourful flowers are another pile, not a new rule
A flower sort is still one label, one mark. Colourful is a property, not a licence to double marks.
The rule does not change because the objects are pretty.

Notes
