Earth as a System: Energy, Matter, and Life

1Uneven Heating of the Earth

Uneven heating: the Earth does not take the Sun’s energy the same way everywhere — equator versus poles, and land versus water, as taught. Uneven is a compare, not “the Sun is weak”. One equator-warm versus pole-thin story is enough.

A single beach photo is not the compare.

Figure. The Sun sends the same rays. At the equator they hit a short strip; toward the poles the same energy is spread along a longer N–S band. No globe is drawn — the strip is a latitude wall.

2Uneven Heating Causes Wind and Ocean Currents

That uneven take moves air and water: wind and ocean currents as taught loops. Warm air or water can rise or travel; cooler can take its place. Cause means you can name the uneven heat as the start of the loop, not a magic fan.

3Biogeochemical Cycles

Biogeochemical cycles are school loops of a named bit (water, carbon, nitrogen as taught) through living and non-living stores. Cycle means the bit comes around; it is not deleted. One water-loop (cloud, rain, run, up again) is enough.

A single rain is not the whole cycle.

How it works

  1. Name the bitWater, or carbon — as taught.
  2. Name two stores it visitsAir, living thing, sea, soil…

4Human Impact on Earth’s Processes

Human impact is a named leftover or scar that thins a cycle or an uneven-heat loop: dirty air or water, a cut forest, extra gas the lesson named. Impact is a job we can point to, not a shame-poster with no leftover.

“Humans are bad” with no named scar is a poster.

How it works

5A definition is a test you can run

Earth-as-a-system is a test: uneven heat, a loop, a cycle, or a named scar. If you only say “environment”, you have a heading.

A blue-marble photo is not the test.

6Name the given before the unknown

The given is the place-pair or the leftover. The unknown is wind, cycle, or impact. Copy “land versus sea” before you jump to a space-movie.

An asteroid film is not the given pond-dirt.

7One worked case is enough at this class

One heat-compare or one named cycle is enough. A page of the same rain-clone does not add a new current.

Ten twins of “save Earth” are still a poster if no leftover is named.

8A miss: swapping the school name for the picture

A globe-photo is a setting. The science is uneven take, a loop, a cycle, or a scar. Blue is not a current.

A holiday beach still is not the land-versus-sea test until you compare.
