  • CBSE Class 4
  • Easy level
  • 8 concepts

1A forest village trip is a living-together case

A visit is a case if you can name a plant or animal that lives with the people there. A bus ride with no pointed living thing is tourism, not the case.

One pointed pair is enough.

Figure. A forest village is one place where plants, animals, and people live together.

How it works

  1. Name the placeThis village edge, this grove.
  2. Point to a living thing people live withA tree, a hen, a field crop.
  3. Name one job that meetsFood, shade, care.

2A harvest festival still needs plants that grew

A festival plate is food that came from plants (or animals that ate plants). The science is the growing, not the song.

A festival with no plant-source is a party, not this chapter’s harvest.

Figure. A harvest festival comes last. Grain is there only because plants grew first.

How it works

  1. Name the food on the plateThis grain, this fruit.
  2. Ask what grewThe plant source.
  3. Keep the song as settingNot the growing.

3Growing up means a living thing changes over time

A seedling to a taller plant, a chick to a hen — same living thing, new stage. Growing up is change you can order in time.

A bigger neighbour plant is not this plant growing up.

Figure. Growing up is the same living thing getting larger over time, not a new kind of thing.

How it works

  1. Name one living thingThis seedling.
  2. Name an earlier and later stageSmall, then taller.
  3. Keep it the same individual if you canOr the same kind’s stages.

4Food from the forest is a plant or animal source

A fruit is a plant source. Honey or a forest egg is an animal source. Run the source test on the food you name.

“Forest food” without a source is a blur.

Figure. Forest food is named by its source: a plant part, or an animal product.

How it works

  1. Name the foodThis fruit, this honey.
  2. Ask plant or animal sourceOne test.
  3. Allow both in one mealTwo ticks, not a fight.

5Care for the forest is a job, not only a visit

Care is a job: do not break a sapling, leave waste, or take more than the rule allows. A photo is not care.

A visit that only takes is not this care-word.

Figure. A visit looks. Care is a job: leave young trees, leave nests, take only what grew.

How it works

  1. Name one care jobLeave the sapling, carry waste out.
  2. Do it or record itThe job.
  3. Do not stop at the selfieA visit is not the job.

6A part has a job in the growing plant

Root, stem, leaf still have jobs while the plant grows. A new leaf is a new worker of the leaf-job, not a new kind of plant.

Growing does not retire the root.

Figure. Name the plant part by the job you can point to.

How it works

  1. Point to a partRoot, stem, leaf.
  2. Name its jobHold and water; carry; make food.
  3. See it on the growing plantSame jobs, new size.

7Keep the scale: one tree is not the whole forest

“This mango tree flowered” is a claim. “The forest is flowering” is too big unless you looked that wide.

One tree is a finished case at this class.

Figure. One tree is a plant. A forest is many living things in one place.

How it works

  1. Name the tree you sawThis one.
  2. State the change you sawFlowered, or new leaves.
  3. Stop at that treeDo not jump to the whole forest.

8A miss: treating the festival as the science

Dates, clothes, and songs are setting. The science is grow, source, care, part-job. A page of only festival names misses the chapter.

Keep the festival as the picture if you like; compute on the living jobs.

Figure. The festival is not the science. The science is that living plants grew the food.

How it works

  1. Hear a festival nameSetting.
  2. Find the growing or source jobThe science.
  3. If there is no living jobCall the miss.
A harvest festival plate still needs
  1. A plant (or animal) source that grew
  2. Only a song
  3. A plastic fruit

The science is the growing source, not the song.
