Pressure, Winds, Storms, and Cyclones

1Pressure
Pressure is force on an area: the same push on a smaller patch is a larger pressure. A sharp pin versus a blunt thumb is the class look. Unit-words as taught (N/m² or a classroom stand-in) travel with the idea.
A bigger force on a much bigger area can be a smaller pressure.

2Pressure Exerted by Air
Air exerts pressure: it pushes on surfaces. A crumpled bottle with the air pumped out (as demonstrated) is a look. You do not feel it usually because pushes balance; a change in air-pressure is what you notice.
“Air is nothing” fails this heading.
Figure. Air is not empty. A column of air stands on every square centimetre and presses with about 10⁵ N/m² at sea level. That is air pressure: the weight of the column on the patch, not a wind.

3Formation of Wind
Wind forms when air moves from a higher-pressure place toward a lower-pressure place, as taught. Uneven heating can set up that difference. Wind is moving air, not an invisible animal.
A flag photo without a pressure-story is a setting.
Figure. Uneven heating makes a pressure difference. Warm land air is lower pressure; cooler sea air is higher. Wind is the air that then moves from high pressure to low pressure — here a day breeze toward the land.

4Storms, Thunderstorms, and Lightning
A storm is strong wind plus, often, rain; a thunderstorm adds thunder and lightning as taught. Lightning is a large electrical spark; you do not stand in an open field to “test” it. Safety is part of the heading.
A drizzle is not this storm-word.
Figure. A thundercloud separates charge: positive toward the top, negative toward the base. The flash is the sudden path that joins the base to the ground. Thunder is the sound of that path, heard later — it is not a second kind of lightning.

5Cyclone
A cyclone is a large rotating storm-system over warm sea, as the lesson framed it — a weather-scale object, not a classroom fan. Warnings and a safe place are the human jobs; the science is the named system.
Calling every windy day a cyclone is too big.
Figure. A cyclone seen as a strip, not a spiral: rain bands, a tall eyewall, a calm eye, then the mirror wall and rain. The eye is lowest pressure and calm. The wall is the strongest wind. Air is drawn inward toward the eye.

6A definition is a test you can run
Pressure is a test: force and area you can name. If you only say “it pressed”, you have a heading.
A thumb feeling is not the split of force and area.
Figure. A definition you can run: compute P = F/A on two footprints of the same 20 N. 20/4 = 5 and 20/10 = 2. Saying “it feels harder” without dividing fails the test.

7Name the given before the unknown
The given is the pin-or-weather setup. The unknown is higher/lower pressure or the storm-word. Copy area before you blame only force.
A wide shoe on snow (as a later-or-aside look) is a silent given if you said only “heavy therefore sinks”.
Figure. Name the given before the unknown: force 16 N and area 4 cm² are given; pressure is what you find. 16 ÷ 4 = 4 N/cm². Starting at P invents a number you were not handed.

8One worked case is enough at this class
One pin-compare or one wind-direction-from-pressure is enough. A page of the same bottle-clone does not add a new cyclone.
Ten twins of one crushed bottle are still one idea.
Figure. One worked case is enough: keep 16 N and double the area from 4 cm² to 8 cm². Pressure halves from 4 N/cm² to 2 N/cm². That is P = F/A on two numbers, not a second chapter.
