Life Processes in Plants

1How Do Plants Grow?
Plants grow by adding living stuff: new length, new leaves, new roots. Growth here is a change you can mark over days, not a one-hour stare.
A plastic plant that looks taller in a new pot is not this growth.
Figure. Growth is a taller shoot on the same soil line. The grown stem is drawn twice the seedling stem. A toy that never gains height fails this job.

2How Do Plants Get Food for their Growth?
Green plants make food using light, air’s carbon-part as taught, and water — the lesson’s food-making. The food is made in the green parts; it is not a lunchbox lowered from a tree-god.
A dark cupboard plant that yellows is a clue that light was a needed job, not a proof of every later equation.
Figure. Food is made in the leaf. Light arrives from above, water from the root, carbon dioxide from the air. The leaf's job is the meeting place — not a later-class pathway.

3Transport in Plants
Transport in plants is water and dissolved stuff moving in tubes you were taught — up from roots, around as the lesson framed it. A wilt is a sign the transport-job failed or the supply failed.
A cut flower in a dye (if you did it) is one look; it is not a highway map of every tree.
Figure. Xylem carries water up from the root. Phloem carries food down from the leaf. The two tubes sit side by side in the stem and the arrows oppose.

4Do Plants Respire?
Yes — plants respire: they also run a gas-job, using food and giving out the dump-gas as taught, including at night. Food-making in light and respiration are different jobs; they can both be true.
“Plants only breathe out oxygen” as the whole story is the miss this heading refuses.
Figure. Respiration does not wait for night stories. Oxygen enters the leaf and carbon dioxide leaves, day and night. Making food in light is a different job.

5A definition is a test you can run
Growth is a test: a mark that later moved. If you cannot point to an add-on, you have a heading only.
A seed packet’s promise is not this plant’s growth.
Figure. Living is a test: make or take food, grow, respond. A toy dog can look like a pet and still fail every job. Point to the job, not the prettiest shape.

6Name the given before the unknown
The given is this plant and the job asked. The unknown is food-making, transport, or respiration. Do not paste an animal’s mouth-path onto a leaf.

Figure. Name the parts you can point to before you ask where food is made. Root, stem and leaf are given. The unknown is the job, not a new organ.

8A miss: swapping the school name for the picture
A forest photo is a setting. The science is the job you name. Counting trees and skipping food-making is the swap-miss.
A green postcard is not transport.
Figure. Photosynthesis is a school name. The picture is sun, leaf, root and the three arrows. Saying the name is not the same as pointing at the meeting place.
